Home Gym Project in Northbridge, NSW

Updated: Oct 10, 2023

Our team at Bibo Build had the privilege of undertaking a unique pool cabana project in Northbridge, New South Wales. The project involved the installation of a 4 metre x 3.3 metre Bronte to be seamlessly integrated into our client's backyard space. The primary objective was to create a functional and aesthetically pleasing gymnasium that aligns with the client's pool area and fits harmoniously within the small and unused dead space between the pool and the back boundaries.

Project Details

The client sought to have a dedicated home gym within their backyard space. We proposed the installation of our smallest Bibo Build range, The Bronte. The compact size was a perfect fit for the available space and blends well visually with the pool and hedges. The size is highly functional and offers an ideal setting for workout enthusiasts.

Structural Specifications:

  • Exterior Dimensions: The exterior dimensions of the gym were specified as 4 metre x 3.3 metre.

  • Internal Dimensions: The internal dimensions were set at 3.6 metre x 2.5 metre creating a comfortable and spacious interior.

  • Floorplan: The gym's interior layout was designed to be functional, with plenty of space for workout equipment and movement. The structure was reinforced to support a variety of equipment, including a TRX Xmount, chin-up bar, bike, treadmill, TV, full-length mirror, weight storage, and fan.

Design and Finishing:

  • Exterior Finish: The gym's exterior was designed with classic external timber cladding, ensuring a timeless and visually appealing look that would complement the surrounding landscape.

  • Interior Flooring: Dark-toned interior flooring was chosen, not only for its aesthetic appeal but also for its durability and low maintenance requirements.

Integration with Surroundings:

  • The gym was strategically aligned with the pool fence, creating a seamless transition between the two areas and enhancing the overall visual harmony of the space.

  • The distance between the pool paver and the hedges along the rear fence was meticulously considered, measuring at only 3.8 metres (excluding setback to site boundaries). This only allowed a narrow 0.5 metre gap (studio depth 3.3 metres) between the pool glass balustrade and the front of the studio. To address this, we have created the main studio access on the side. The studio is installed slightly elevated, which turns the recess studio frontage with decking still functional i.e. a nice sitting area to relax.

Preparation and Access:

  • The client was advised to trim the hedges in advance to provide the building team with unobstructed access during the installation process. This was especially important for installing the cladding on the gym's back wall.

Electrical Plan:

The gym's electrical plan was thoughtfully designed to accommodate various workout needs and create an atmosphere conducive to exercise. The plan included the following features:

  • Adequate lighting with strategically placed lights and switches for optimal visibility.

  • Double power points for convenient access to electrical outlets.

  • Multiple wall-mounted fans to ensure proper ventilation and active cooling during workouts.

  • An A/C unit to maintain a comfortable temperature inside the gym.
